Boxwood Cafe - Knightsbridge, London

The Boxwood Cafe: is situated in The Berkley Hotel, London and run by Head Chef, Stuart Gillies under the Gordon Ramsay umbrella. It's supposed to be an informal number so my 13 year old son Cameron and I headed up there on Saturday for a spot of lunch.

Review: We arrived about 5 minutes early for our 12.30pm table and the restaurant was pretty quiet. Our table was tucked away at the far end of the restaurant in the corner which was fine. The restaurant is very nice, modern and stylish and once sat down we ordered a some water while we chose our lunch.

We opted for the A La Carte as my son had his eyes on the Veal & Froie Gras Burger. For starters, I went for the Oven Baked Scallops and my son opted for the San Daniele Ham. Both were very nice, the scallops in fact were lovely. For main course, I chose the Seared Yellow Fin Tuna with a sesame, soya and shallot dressing and coriander salad which was absolutely divine. I'm a big coriander fan and loved the flavours. Cameron chose the burger, no surprise there and he was a bit disappointed giving it only 5/10. As for desert, we both fancied something chocolaty and chose the Chocolate Fondant & Chocolate Fondue to share and boy was it rich!!! A little too much but Cameron gave the fondant a thumbs up and 11/10.

I had a coffee to finish off and then we promptly headed to Oxford Street for some shopping. All in all the lunch was expensive (£132) with only 2 glasses of wine a couple of cokes. The set menu looks far better value for a lunch but we had a great time.

Conclusion: It's nice, and a nice place to take the kids just as long as they are not the fussy type. Service was reasonable, friendly but you couldn't help feeling that a lot of the staff were new and were not 100% sure of what they were supposed to be doing. It certainly didn't spoil things though.
